Because of the inconsistent AF accuracy, I'm withholding recommendation of this lens for time-critical work. If you can shoot, check the results and reshoot if necessary (as many times as necessary), this lens can deliver very nice results for a relatively small cost. I would be very uncomfortable if I had to use this lens for a wedding - or adding the slow AF speed factor, for action sports - or for any other important shot that I couldn't reshoot. In shooting my own pictures with this lens, I found myself overshooting to make sure I got the shot I wanted. When AF was on, results were very nice. As I said before, stopping down the aperture increased the keeper rate nicely.

If your tolerance level for OOF (Out of Focus) shots is higher than your budget, this might be the right lens for you.

Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 II EX DC HSM

The Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 II EX DC HSM Lens is a very attractive combination of focal length range, wide aperture and size/weight.
Unfortunately, focus calibration issues appear to be prevalent in this lens.

All three purchased-retail-new copies of this lens I tried strongly front-focused on both my Canon EOS Rebel XSi / 450D and Canon EOS 40D DSLRs.
All three focused consistently, but all focused well in front of the subject. On top of that, one lens had a smudge on an inner lens surface.
Yes, there is a chance a forth copy could focus properly, but 0 for 3 is not a good showing and I have to stop somewhere.
So my conclusion is that, if relying on AF, this is an extremely soft lens - unusable until f/5.6 at 50mm and f/11 at 150mm in my opinion.

All-in-all - highly recommended but watch out for focus accuracy problems.

Canon EF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM Lens Review

The Canon EF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM Lens enters the world as, by far, Canon's most expensive lens. This is of course not counting the EF 1200mm f/5.6 that is not in regular production - and costs as much as a small house.

The definite upside to the Canon EF 800mm f/5.6 L IS USM Lens' high price is that you get Canon's ultimate lens physical qualities and superb Image quality.

The 800 L is sharp wide open from corner to corner and slightly sharper stopped down to f/8. The biggest improvement from stopping down is the reduced vignetting, which is somewhat strong at f/5.6. Exposures at f/5.6 are generally at least 1/3 stop darker even in the center of the frame from what f/8 exposures are - this is the biggest negative attribute of this lens in my opinion (aside from the price of course). Images at f/8 are simply excellent.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens Review

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens is going to be purchased by those who want the best image quality they can get from f/1.2 to f/2, by those needing a more-pleasing background blur quality than the other two 50s deliver, by those requiring the least amount of lens flare in their results or by those who need/want the best quality (build) lens they can get. I can't say that the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens is a good value, but I do think it is worth the price to serious photographers who need what it can deliver.
